Organic sourcing and artificial colors

For documented conventional whole/raw produce, subtract the applicable sourcing preference from the dietary-fit score. Dirty Dozen uses the dated 2026 EWG list. Confirmed artificial-color ingredients then constrain the result. Scores never go below zero; these are editorial preferences, not measured differences in health risk.

The Dirty Dozen difference cannot be smaller than the ordinary produce difference. Unknown organic status is never assumed conventional. A confirmed color ingredient produces a preference warning even if other missing facts prevent a complete rating.

Grain and carbohydrate preferences

The main rating starts at 10 and takes the lowest grain, carbohydrate, added-sugar, or processing cap. These are your dietary preferences, not medical risk thresholds or an official Grain Brain score. The four-nutrient comparison below remains separate.

Above the middle threshold uses the high-density cap. Caps must not increase as density increases. Total carbohydrate is not net carbohydrate; this does not predict blood-sugar response.

Nutrient comparison weights

Weights must total 100%. Thresholds are percentages of adult Daily Values, not grams. The 9/6/3 point bands remain fixed; fiber is scored in the opposite direction.

Processing caps

These constrain the selected method’s main rating. They are editorial preferences, not NOVA medical cutoffs. Changing caps does not change a product’s processing classification. Missing processing evidence still means no processing-aware rating.

Caps must be whole numbers from 0 to 10 and must not increase from group 1 through group 4. This ordering is our policy constraint, not a scientific scale of harm.

Not editable here: missing-data protections, evidence requirements, allergy warnings, or medical-condition restrictions. Single-nutrient goals still use their named nutrient only.
